Job summary

Nimble is hiring a School Bus Aide to support the bus driver in providing safe, orderly transportation for students to and from school and activities. You will supervise students, assist with boarding and exiting, and help ensure a calm, respectful environment on each route.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the school bus.
  • Supervise students during loading, unloading, and transportation.
  • Assist students in safely entering and exiting the bus as needed.
  • Assist students with disabilities or other individual needs in accordance with their assigned supports, training, and applicable student plans.
  • Monitor student behavior and address minor behavioral concerns using district-approved procedures.
  • Immediately report serious, unsafe, or recurring student behavior concerns to the bus driver and/or appropriate school personnel.
  • Ensure students remain seated and follow established bus safety rules while the bus is in motion.
  • Assist with the use of seat belts, harnesses, specialized seating, mobility devices, or other approved safety equipment when applicable and when properly trained.
  • Assist with the safe loading, securing, and unloading of wheelchairs or other mobility equipment when applicable and as trained.
  • Monitor students who may require increased supervision due to age, disability, medical needs, behavioral needs, or other circumstances.
  • Assist students in locating assigned seats or maintaining established seating arrangements.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and order on the bus and report maintenance or safety concerns to the driver.
  • Follow all district transportation policies, safety procedures, emergency procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in required training and safety programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, disabilities, medical information, family circumstances, behavioral concerns, and other student information.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, transportation staff, and members of the public.
  • Assist during emergencies, evacuations, accidents, or other incidents as directed and as trained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.

Position Summary

The School Bus Aide assists the school bus driver in providing safe, orderly, and efficient transportation for students to and from school and school-related activities. The Bus Aide is responsible for supervising students while on the bus, assisting students with boarding and exiting, supporting students who require additional assistance, and helping maintain a safe and appropriate environment throughout the route.

The School Bus Aide works cooperatively with the bus driver, transportation department, school staff, students, and families while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding student information.

Student Supervision and Safety

The School Bus Aide is expected to remain attentive to students throughout the transportation period and actively monitor the bus environment. The aide should promptly communicate safety concerns, injuries, behavioral incidents, medical concerns, or other significant events to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.

The Bus Aide must never leave students unattended on the bus except as specifically permitted by district procedures and applicable law.
