Responsibilities

• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices.
• Monitor students’ health and behavior during transit; implement behavioral plans as needed.
• Ensure safety gear and restraints are properly fastened for each child.
• In emergencies, assist the driver to evacuate students quickly and safely.
• Serve as a friendly point of contact for parents at bus stops and relay information.

Job Summary:

A school Bus Aide is responsible for assisting the driver in the safe transportation and management of special education students. Applicant should have excellent communication skills, be alert and exercise good judgment. Exhibit a positive image as a loyal representative of the school district. Establish favorable working relationships with supervisors, drivers, maintenance personnel, teachers and students. Be in good physical health.

Demonstrates reliability by reporting for duty on time, maintain a record of regular attendance and punctuality.

Necessary safety and behavioral training is provided

A bus driver is the first school representative they see in the morning and the last one they see in the afternoon. Key Responsibilities

• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus; this includes operating wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices. Kneeling to secure the wheelchairs and exiting through emergency doors.
• Monitor students’ health and behavior during transit. Implement individualized behavioral plans as needed to keep the environment calm.
• Ensure all safety vests, harnesses, and car seats are properly fastened and adjusted for each child’s specific needs.
• In the event of an emergency, assist the driver in evacuating students quickly and safely.
• Act as a friendly point of contact for parents at bus stops and relay important information as required.
• Experience with children with disabilities is preferred, but we are looking for the right heart and temperament above all else.
