Job summary

Cuba Independent Schools in Merit, Texas seeks a dedicated Bus Aide to support the Transportation Director and Special Education Coordinator in ensuring student safety on morning and afternoon routes. The role may include additional duties as assigned.

The Bus Aide will assist students with boarding/alighting, belting, securing seats, and wheelchair/lift operations, while monitoring conduct and maintaining a clean bus environment. A valid license and First Aid/CPR are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills.
• Possess Valid Driver's License.
• Must be eighteen years of age.
• Must have a current First Aid/CPR certification.
• Must complete 16 hours of in-service each year.

Responsibilities

• Read, write and understand basic verbal and written communication.
• Communicate effectively with others.
• Assist students with getting on and off the bus while following District procedures.
• Maintain pupil behavior and remain calm and cheerful; follow IEP when needed.
• Assist with seating, belts, car seats, and wheelchairs (on/off the lift).
• Help the bus driver maintain good student conduct on the bus.
• Take attendance on the bus to and from school.
• Seek emergency assistance when needed.
• Help keep the bus clean and report lost items after each route.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION: Bus Aide

SUPERVISOR: Transportation Director

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction and input of the Transportation Director. Works with Special Education Coordinator and the bus drivers to ensure that all students are safe on the bus. Typical runs are morning and afternoon. Other duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Ability to read, write and understand basic verbal and written communication.
• 2. Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• 3. Must have the ability to take care of student, parent and school needs while following District procedures.
• 4. Must have the ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management and if needed, in accordance with student IEP. Ability to maintain a cheerful and calm demeanor at all times.
• 5. Assists all students in getting on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
• 6. Assists with seat belts, secures car seats, wheelchairs (on/off the lift) etc.
• 7. Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
• 8. Takes attendance on the bus to and from school.
• 9. Seeks emergency assistance when needed.
• 10. Assists the driver with keeping the bus clean and orderly with daily cleaning after each route operated as well as check for lost items.
• 12. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to climb steps and evacuate bus. Must have the ability to drag up to 50 lbs.

SAFETY AND HEALTH

• Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
• Predator Identification Training.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL HANDLED

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
