Job summary

JCFS Chicago is seeking a Paraprofessional to provide behavioral, emotional, and academic support for students at Knapp School and Yeshiva, ensuring a safe environment throughout the day. The role requires using trained methodologies, maintaining awareness of student whereabouts, and physically intervening when necessary under CPI and UKERU protocols to reduce risk and support staff and students.

Qualifications

• Must complete CPI and UKERU training and maintain credentials.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• ISBE Certified Paraprofessional or able to obtain the necessary credentials within 30 days of hire.
• Prior experience working with students with disabilities, more specifically ED, ASD, or OHI populations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain calm demeanor during crisis and post crisis debrief.
• Assist in implementing crisis support plans, including elopement protocols.
• Remain at designated work location during entire shift and communicate location via radio.
• Assist Teachers in classroom during instruction and in crisis situations.
• Help supervise lunch with the assigned classroom teacher.
• Complete and maintain CPI and UKERU certification.
• Intervene using CPI and Collaborative Problem Solving to support students and deescalate crises.
• Maintain radio communication with staff and administration; document post-crisis reports.
• Execute lesson plans as assigned by teachers; participate in events as needed.
• Represent JCFS positively; adhere to policies; maintain confidentiality under HIPAA/FERPA.
