Job summary

Sheppard Pratt School in Glyndon, MD is hiring a School Behavior Specialist for a Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm in-person role. The position supports students in the Autism program by conducting functional behavioral assessments, developing intervention plans, and training staff across a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualified candidates hold a Master’s degree in ABA/behavioral psychology or related field (BCBA/LBA preferred) with 2–3 years of relevant experience, strong Excel and data-collection skills,

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in applied behavior analysis, behavioral psychology, special education or closely related field; BCBA and LBA preferred.
  • 2–3 years of behavior assessment and behavior management experience with children, including autism or emotional disturbances.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Complete functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans for the Autism program.
  • Prepare Positive Behavior Support and Management Plans, train staff in their administration, and reassess plans as needed.
  • Supervise Assistant Behavior Specialist(s) and/or Resource Specialist(s).
  • Collaborate with education and treatment teams; serve as a resource to teachers, staff, and families on behavior support and management.
  • Work independently or under supervision depending on credentials and licensure.

What to expect.

As a School Behavior Specialist you:

  • Are responsible for the timely completion of functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans on all children assigned to the Autism program.
  • Prepare Positive Behavior Support and Management Plans, train staff in their administration, and reassess and revise plans as needed.
  • Supervise Assistant Behavior Specialist(s) and/or Resource Specialist(s) assigned to program.
  • Work with education and treatment team; serve as a resource to teachers, staff, and family regarding behavior support and management.
  • Depending on credentials and licensure, may work independently or under appropriate supervision by a licensed professional.

The pay range for this position is $58,401.82 to $90,195.04/year. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education and years and level of related experience.

What we need from you.
  • Work requires comprehensive knowledge of behavior analysis, psychiatric terminology and diagnoses, as well as highly developed communication skills, both oral and written- acquired through Master's degree in applied behavior analysis, behavioral psychology, special education or closely related field of study. BCBA and LBA preferred.

  • Work requires two to three years' behavior assessment and behavior management experience with children and persons with autism or emotional disturbances and experience with computer software, including Microsoft Excel and data collection and analysis.

  • Work requires substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work with a wide range of students and staff members under challenging circumstances (51-80% of the time) and to present a model of patience, warmth, and empathy.

  • Work requires analytical and organizational abilities sufficient to conduct behavior assessments, establish behavioral data collection methods and standards, review, analyze, and report data, and assess the need for staff training.

  • Work requires frequent exposure (21-50% of the time) to mental strain while working with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents.
