Job summary

Communities In Schools of Eastern PA is seeking a Student Support Specialist to work inside a local school, coordinating services and providing counseling and case management to students in need. You’ll link families to resources, track progress, and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community partners to improve attendance, behavior, and achievement.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 1–3 years in education or youth services, strong communication skills,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or related field.
• 1–3 years relevant experience within public education or community-based organization.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse representatives from public and private service organizations, public education, neighborhood organizations, parent groups, and local government.
• Experience in case management and youth counseling.
• Experienced leadership for on-site coordination of service providers, volunteers, parents, students, and school staff.
• Knowledge of local human service network and effective teen behavior modification interventions.
• Ability to manage details and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform functions of case manager including individual/group case management, assessment, linkage to service providers, home visitations, and follow-up; document interactions daily.
• Assist, when requested, to supervise students in teacher-planned activities and assist with classroom management.
• Provide school-based team with feedback regarding students’ progress, behavior, and incidents.
• Maintain adherence to the disciplinary code at the school site.
• Record in writing all professional contacts with students and families in the appropriate system.
• Confer regularly with school-based team on progress and needs in academics, attendance, and behavior.
• Provide transitional support to students entering or exiting the program with guidance department collaboration.
• Encourage parental involvement and communicate written notices of events.
• Collaborate with school officials regarding services for students and families.
• Participate in supervision and team meetings; intervene in crises when warranted.
• Provide individual/group counseling and case management for identified students.
• Serve as ambassador for CISLV mission and programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
