Job summary

Bremerton School District is seeking a Certified Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to support speech therapy services for students. The role works under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist and follows documented treatment plans.

The SLPA should have an associate degree (or bachelor’s in communication disorders) and be able to document student performance, assist with assessments, and prepare materials. 7 hours per day, 189 days per year.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of developmental milestones
  • Work with students with communication, learning, behavioraland/or physical handicaps
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grammar and English usage
  • Ability to articulate clearly and possess effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, parents and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain program records and organize materials
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Follows directions and can work independently or with a team
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to complete activities that support compliance with Federal, State and local mandates
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staffand parents

Responsibilities

  • Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Document student performance (e.g., tallying data for the Speech Language Pathologist to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising Speech Language Pathologist
  • Assist the Speech Language Pathologist during assessment of students.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed by the Speech Language Pathologist
  • Constructs materials for students; modifies materials as necessary and as directed by the speech language therapist.
  • Provides therapy support in classroom as appropriate
  • Perform checks and maintenance of equipment
  • Collect data for monitoring quality improvement
  • Attends departmental, building, and IEP meetings as appropriate
  • Performs related duties as assigned
