Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; further interpreter training preferred.
• Virginia QA Screening Level or NRID certification required or preferred.
• Experience in educational interpreting is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for assigned hearing-impaired students.
• Facilitate accurate communication without editing the message.
• Convey signed messages in English when voice interpreting.
• Provide interpreting in meetings, tutoring, and conferences during the day.
• Collaborate as part of the educational team for hearing-impaired students.
• Conduct orientation sessions for mainstream teachers on interpreter roles.
• Notify teachers of problems affecting interpreting process.
• Follow state and federal mandates for services.
• Orient students on the role and use of the interpreter.
• Perform related tasks as required.
