Job summary

Birch Family Services seeks an Occupational Therapist to support students in a New York educational setting. The OT will assess motor and sensory processing, develop and implement goals, and help students participate successfully in classroom activities.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, preparing IEP-related reports, training staff and communicating findings to parents. The role requires NYS OT licensure and commitment to collaborative, child-centered care within school programs.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months supervised; 1–3 years preferred.
• Licenses: NYS OT licensure and OTCB certification.
• Specialized knowledge: AMAP certification during probation and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

• Make observations during preliminary screening of new students, and ongoing evaluations.
• Write a full description of the child’s performance referencing sensory processing, perceptual skills and motor coordination as they impact participation.
• Develop goals and activities to enhance learning and independence.
• Maintain mandated documentation of treatment and progress (notes, attendance, IEP-related reports).
• Submit progress reports and participate in IEP conferences as required.
• Explain findings to parents and recommend activities, positioning, and adaptations to improve participation.
