Job summary

East Central Ohio Educational Service Center seeks a school-based Prevention Specialist to promote mental health and prevent substance abuse in targeted Belmont County schools. The role is full-time during the school year, from mid-August to early June, with duties including program development, early intervention, and referrals to resources.

Responsibilities include coordinating prevention activities, partnering with teachers and families, and serving on community/state committees.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Bachelor's degree in social work, community health, sociology, psychology, or related human services field.
• Must be certified as a Prevention Specialist or willing to begin certification following Ohio Chemical Dependency Board guidelines.
• Must be drug-free and adhere to the program's Drug-free Workplace policy.
• Must undergo FBI and BCI background check. Employment contingent on criminal-free check.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop and implement mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention programs for youth.
• Provide early intervention/student support services to students and families to address non-academic barriers.
• Refer students and families to school-based or community resources as needed.
• Participate in community-based process activities and committees.
• Attend required trainings to maintain state prevention certification.
• Provide teacher in-service/professional development as needed.
