Job summary

Abilities First, Inc. seeks a patient, energetic Behavior Support Specialist for the Myers Corners School program in Wappingers Falls, NY. You will provide behavioral support for students to increase independence using functional, age-appropriate methods.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team, supporting education for school-age children at all levels of ability. Schedule is Mon-Fri, 8:00 am–3:00 pm, during a 32.5-hour week with a 6-week summer program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Combination of education and experience meeting the needs of the school program.

Responsibilities

• Collect data as part of a functional behavior analysis.
• Monitor behavior and strategies and interventions accordingly.
• Collaborate with classroom teacher on appropriate use of positive reinforcements.
• Manage challenging behaviors of students in classroom using research-based practices.
• Follows the classroom schedule ensuring that individual student’s IEP behavioral goals are achieved.
• Attends staff meetings and job skill training.
• Assist in therapy sessions with students to support behavior management.
• Escort and assist students to and from buses.
• Attend specials with students (PE, art, music).
• Support mobility and self-dressing/undressing; diaper changes when needed.

Education
