Job summary

New Horizons Regional Education Center in Newport News, VA seeks a Behavior Specialist to design and implement behavioral support for students with emotional disabilities or autism. You will participate in multi-disciplinary teams, assist with disciplinary processes, and contribute to data-driven decision making.

The role requires a Master’s in Special Education, VA licensure with specified endorsements, and BCBA coursework or enrollment, with at least five years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Special Education.
• VA license in Special Education with ED, MR, SPH, or General/Modified endorsements.
• BCBA or enrolled in BACB coursework.
• At least five years of experience supporting students needing intensive learning and behavioral supports.
• Experience with emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism.

Responsibilities

• Organize and implement behavioral support programs for students with emotional disabilities or autism.
• Provide behavioral intervention/management assistance to teachers, parents, and students.
• Collaborate with teachers during FBA, BIP development and implementation.
• Attend I.E.P. meetings and serve as designee as needed.
• Coordinate arrival and dismissal, supervise student safety, and support bus procedures.
• Monitor behavioral data and ensure accurate teacher records and parent contacts.
• Provide crisis intervention and conduct counselor sessions as needed.
• Train teachers and paraprofessionals in PBIS and positive behavior supports.
