Job summary

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Behavior Support Specialist
Job Summary:
The Behavior Specialist is responsible for providing support and interventions to
students exhibiting behavioral challenges or emotional disturbances that interfere with
their academic and social success. They collaborate with school staff, parents, and
external agencies to develop and implement strategies that promote positive behavior
and create a conducive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Evaluation:
? Conduct functional behavior assessments to identify conditions and
circumstances associated with behavioral challenges or emotional
disturbances.
? Collaborate with school teams to evaluate students' needs and develop
individualized intervention plans.
2. Intervention Planning and Implementation:
? Develop behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with significant
behavioral issues.
? Implement evidence-based strategies and techniques to address behavioral
concerns and promote positive behavior.
? Provide direct support and coaching to students in managing their
behavior and emotions.
3. Consultation and Collaboration:
? Consult with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address
classroom management and behavior-related concerns.
? Coordinate with external agencies, such as mental health providers or
social services, to access additional support for students as needed.

4. Professional Development:
? Provide training and professional development opportunities for school
staff on behavior management strategies and techniques.
? Stay informed about current research and best practices in the field of
behavior management and intervention.

5. Data Collection and Analysis:
? Collect data on student behavior and intervention outcomes to monitor
progress and make informed decisions.
? Analyze data to identify trends and make adjustments to intervention
plans as necessary.

6. Crisis Intervention:
? Respond to crisis situations involving student behavior, providing support
and guidance to ensure the safety of students and staff.
? Implement crisis management protocols and coordinate with appropriate
personnel and resources.

Qualifications:
? Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work,
or a related field.
? Experience working with children and/or adolescents in a school or clinical
setting, preferably with a focus on behavior management.
? Knowledge and understanding of behavior intervention practices, positive
behavior support components, and evidence-based practices to address
social/emotional/behavioral skill deficits.
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate
effectively with diverse stakeholders.
? Understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing students with
disabilities and student rights.
? Requires the ability to navigate and address challenging behavior situations with
empathy and professionalism.
? Knowledge of areas such as trauma-informed care, mental health disorders, and
autism spectrum disorders preferred.
? Understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction preferred.
