Job summary

Axtell Park Building in Sioux Falls, SD seeks a Behavior Specialist to support students with challenging behaviors. The 1.0 FTE position requires collaborating with staff, conducting FBAs, and developing individual support plans.

The role emphasizes data-based decision making, confidentiality, and ongoing progress monitoring. Starting pay at $39.71 per hour with typical school-year hours, Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–4:00 pm. A BCBA preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, or related field required.
• BCBA preferred.
• Experience in a behavioral treatment facility may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Knowledge of strategies to manage behavior.
• May be required to physically manage students, exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
• Computer competency in word processing, databases and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with district staff and families to create supportive, inclusive learning environments.
• Facilitate Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) to develop student support plans.
• Identify strengths and use positive reinforcement and motivation techniques.
• Work with students 1:1 and in small groups to reinforce behavioral goals.
• Monitor progress and maintain student behavior records as per plan.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families; communicate with team.
