Job summary

Alturas Academy is seeking an AMERICAN Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide interpreting services for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing student. The interpreter will facilitate communication among teachers, staff and peers during a full school day, supporting access to instruction and participation.

Responsibilities include interpreting in classrooms, meetings, and activities, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with SPED staff.

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
• EIPA score of 3.5 or higher or RID certification.
• Experience interpreting in an educational setting.
• Experience in elementary school preferred.
• Knowledge of IEPs, FERPA and confidentiality requirements.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate ASL interpretation during classroom instruction and school events.
• Facilitate communication between student, teachers, staff, and peers.
• Interpret spoken English to ASL and ASL to spoken English as needed.
• Support the student’s participation in academics, activities, and school life.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
• Collaborate with teachers, SPED staff, and related service providers.
• Follow the student’s IEP and school procedures.
