Job summary

City of New York is seeking a 2026-2027 School Aide to support teachers by handling non-instructional activities and maintaining order throughout the school day.

Responsibilities include supervising students at lunch, during arrival/dismissal, and drills; assisting with clerical tasks and material handling; and coordinating with staff to ensure a safe, organized environment for all students.

Qualifications

• No HS diploma required.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods.
• Experience working with students, preferably high school-age.
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for schools with language needs.

Responsibilities

• Relieves teachers of non-teaching duties and monitors classroom activities.
• Relieves in yard, hall, lavatory, study hall and other monitorial duties.
• Handles, stores and distributes textbooks and instructional materials.
• Assists with routine clerical work.
• Supervises lunchroom and assists with lunch service.
• Supports school clerical tasks and checks reports and lists.
• Manages arrival/departure of students transported by bus.
• Directs students during wash, lunch, lining up and dismissal.
• Performs additional duties as requested by teachers or principals.
