Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a School-Age Teacher I for Pomelo Community Charter in Canoga Park, CA. The role is part-time (up to 29 hours) with before/after school shifts and a $19.22 per hour salary.

The position focuses on creating engaging learning experiences, building relationships with children and families, and supporting growth beyond the school day. You will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensure safety, and help children build academic, social, and

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 12 semester units in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Physical Education, Human Services, School-Age coursework, or other qualifying coursework meeting California Community Care Licensing requirements for School-Age Teachers.
• At least six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
• Experience planning and implementing age-appropriate, developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Current EMSA First Aid and Adult/Infant/Child CPR certifications, or ability to obtain certifications as a condition of employment.
• Completion of required health screenings, immunizations, and background clearances for licensed child-care programs.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom where children feel supported and inspired to learn.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that foster academic growth and positive youth development.
• Build meaningful relationships with children, families, and team members to create a welcoming classroom community.
• Support children's social and emotional development through positive guidance and relationship building.
• Ensure classroom operations comply with YMCA standards and California licensing requirements.
