Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is hiring a part-time School‑Age Teacher I at the North Valley Family YMCA in Porter Ranch, CA. The role supports licensed School‑Age programs with before and after school shifts and an approximate 18 to 21 hours per week schedule.

You will develop developmentally appropriate curriculum, build relationships with children and families, and help children grow academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Twelve (12) semester units in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Physical Education, Human Services, Social Welfare, School‑Age coursework, or other qualifying coursework that meets California Community Care Licensing requirements for School‑Age Teachers.
  • At least six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
  • Experience planning and implementing age appropriate, developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Strong communication skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment.
  • Completion of required health screenings, immunizations, and background clearances required for licensed child care programs.

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom where children feel supported, challenged, and inspired to learn.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that encourage academic growth, creativity, and positive youth development.
  • Build meaningful relationships with children, families, and fellow Team Members while creating a welcoming classroom community.
  • Support children's social and emotional development through positive guidance, encouragement, and relationship building.
  • Help ensure the classroom operates safely and in compliance with YMCA standards and California Community Care Licensing requirements.
