Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant for Frelinghuysen Elementary School in Newton, NJ, for the 2026–2027 year. The role supports morning and/or afternoon programs aligned with the school day, operating within the Before and After School Program framework.

The position is part-time and non-exempt, offering employer-paid childcare and other benefits. Applicants should be prepared for state background checks and physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required.
• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Must meet physical demands including bending, stretching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum (fitness, STEAM, academic, art, homework completion).
• Provide a safe, healthy, and engaging environment and serve as a positive role model.
• Observe state, program, and host school policies.
• Some positions may handle attendance, registration, and staffing responsibilities.

PAY: $16.00 per hour

SCHEDULE: Follows the school calendar

Morning Program: 7:30 - 8:30 am

Afternoon Program: 3:15 - 6:15 pm

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant for our Before and After School Programs at Frelinghuysen Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year.

Position Responsibilities

The Before and After School Program team is responsible for:

• Facilitating hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum which includes fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities as well as homework completion.
• Providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment and acting as a positive role model for children in the program.
• Observing state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Certain positions may also perform management functions such as accurate attendance records, registration, and staffing.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Requires the ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, and actively engaging with energetic children.
• The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and colleagues, along with a consistent record of reliability and punctuality.
