Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking a School Age Childcare Assistant to support planning, supervising, and implementing childcare activities in accordance with California licensing guidelines. You will provide safe, engaging care for children and promote positive behaviors while collaborating with families and staff.

Role involves assisting with lesson plans, activities, healthy eating and physical activity standards, and timely setup and cleanup.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Six units in child development or related field preferred.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all branch and position trainings within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance.
• Health Screening and negative TB test required before first day.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs per California guidelines.
• Provide quality care and supervision to children.
• Create a safe, welcoming environment where children can thrive.
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, considering individual needs.
• Assist in supervising activities and lesson plans.
• Ensure HEPA standards are delivered in the program.
• Set up and clean up the program area (vacuuming, dusting, etc.).
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families.
• Participate in in-service trainings and staff development.
