Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA seeks an experienced Assistant Site Supervisor for Baywood Elementary, San Luis Obispo. The role supports planning and supervising before/after-school and camp programs at a California-licensed site.

You will ensure safety, implement activities, and help staff adhere to licensing and DOE program guidelines while fostering a caring environment for children and families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 12 units in Child Development or related field.
• 3 units in Administration; waiver possible for first-year completion.
• 48 college units or an Associate’s Degree required by California ELOP.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs (Before-School, After-School, Summer Camp, and School Break Care).
• Supervises up to 14 children independently, and up to 20 with program guidelines.
• Provide a safe, engaging environment and guide positive behavior.
• Carry out activities and lesson plans; ensure HEPA standards.

Education

What does an Assistant Site Supervisor Do?

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs (Before-School, After-School, Summer Camp, and School Break Care) in accordance with guidelines from State of California Community Care Licensing or California Department of Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs
• Supervises up to 14 children independently under the guidelines from State of California Community Care Licensing or 20 children in accordance with guidelines from California Department of Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs
• If applicable, supervises an Assistant or Associate Teacher with up to 28 children under the guidelines from the State of California Community Care Licensing
• Provides quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
• Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
• Carry out activities and lesson plans
• Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
• Set up and clean-up of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc
• Assist the Site Supervisor in the planning and administration of the program
• Assist in selecting training and providing guidance to staff
• Ensures accurate enrollment and attendance procedures are followed

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old
• 1 year of experience working in a childcare setting
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• California Community Care Licensing Requirement: Must possess a minimum of 12 units of Child Development or related field and 3 units in Administration. A waiver may be submitted to allow for the Administration course to be completed in the first year of employment (or approved Community Care Licensing alternative)
• California Department of Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs Requirement: Must possess 48 college units or an Associate’s Degree
• Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance
• Health Screening Report and negative TB test required prior to first day of employment
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
