Job summary

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) partners with Seattle Parks and Recreation to provide licensed childcare and after-school programs for children aged 5-12 in Seattle. The role supports a classroom, applying developmentally appropriate activities, and fostering a safe, inclusive environment at Wedgwood Elementary School (primary site Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center).

The position is part-time and non-exempt, with hours Monday–Friday up to 23 per week during the school year, with possible

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Background checks (MERIT Portable), TB testing, Washington State Food Worker Card required after hire with ARC assisting and paying fees.

Responsibilities

• Assist and lead daily curriculum activities for children ages 5-12.
• Maintain a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio to ensure safety and accountability.
• Collaborate with ARC staff and follow guidance from the School-Age Care Director.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.

(the employee in this position could earn up to $25.30/hr. with additional years of employment)If you have experience working with school-age children ages 5-12 and enjoy creating engaging experiences that support their learning, development, and well-being, Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a School-Age Care Counselor.ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.Location: Wedgwood Elementary School - 2720 NE 85th St Seattle, WA 98115* Primary location is Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center, but the program is delivered out of Wedgwood Elementary SchoolSchedule:Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school yearMay work summers as wellDue to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us knowSchedules may vary based on availability and program needsSchool-Age Care Counselor Duties:Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications:Must be 18 years of age or older.Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).
