Job summary

ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, offers after-school programs for children aged 5-12 at John Rogers Elementary School in Seattle. The School-Age Care Counselor provides active supervision, engages children in developmentally appropriate activities, and creates a safe, inclusive after-school environment.

The role is part-time and non-exempt, with a starting pay of $22.00/hr and a full range of $22.00–$25.30/hr.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or other secondary education.
• MBR vaccination, TB testing, MERIT Background Check, and WA State Food Worker Card required after hire; ARC will assist with fees.

Responsibilities

• Assists and leads daily curriculum activities for children ages 5-12.
• Models appropriate behavior and supports social and emotional growth.
• Maintains a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio to ensure safety and accountability.
• Collaborates with School-Age Care staff and reports to the ARC School-Age Care Director.

Starting pay: $22.00/hr.

Full Pay Range: $22.00-25.30/hr. (the employee in this position could earn up to $25.30/hr. with additional years of employment)

If you have experience working with school-age children ages 5-12 and enjoy creating engaging experiences that support their learning, development, and well-being, Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a School-Age Care Counselor.

ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.

Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

Location

John Rogers Elementary School - 4030 NE 109th St, Seattle, WA 98125

• Primary location is Meadowbrook Community Center, but the program is delivered out of John Rogers Elementary School

Schedule

• Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school year
• May work summers as well
• Due to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us know
• Schedules may vary based on availability and program needs

School-Age Care Counselor Duties

• Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
• Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
• Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
• Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.

School-Age Care Counselor Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
• MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). (ARC will assist you through these requirements and pay the fees associated with the TB testing.)
