Job summary

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) partners with Seattle Parks and Recreation to provide licensed childcare and recreational programs. This part-time School-Age Care Lead Counselor will guide a classroom of children 5–12, deliver engaging activities, and ensure a safe, inclusive after-school environment at Ravenna-Eckstein and Thornton Creek Elementary locations in Seattle.

The role requires 18+, a high school diploma, and 1 year of school-age childcare experience, with health/safety checks

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of prior experience in school-age childcare preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and lead daily curriculum activities for ages 5–12.
  • Model appropriate behavior and support social/emotional growth.
  • Maintain a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio when possible for safety.
  • Collaborate with ARC School-Age Care staff and follow directions from the ARC School-Age Care Director.
  • Support the School-Age Care Director in more advanced daily operations.

(the employee in this position could earn up to $26.45/hr. with additional years of employment)If you have experience working with school-age children ages 5-12 and enjoy creating engaging experiences that support their learning, development, and well-being, Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a School-Age Care Lead Counselor.ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, you will guide and support a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.Our programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.Location: Thornton Creek Elementary School - 7712 40th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115* Primary location is Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center, but the program is delivered out of Thornton Creek Elementary SchoolSchedule:Monday-Friday during after-school hours, up to 23 hours per week during the school yearMay work summers as wellDue to your schedule, you can work some or all of these days; please let us knowSchedules may vary based on availability and program needsSchool-Age Care Lead Counselor Duties:Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.Directly supports the School-Age Care Director in more advanced daily operations with greater responsibilities.School-Age Care Lead Counselor Qualifications:Must be 18 years of age or older.Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.Must have a year of prior experience in school-age childcare. Strong preference for experience in a licensed program.MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).
