Job summary

Peabody Public Schools seeks an School Adjustment Counselor to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The role collaborates with parents, teachers, and staff to strengthen student outcomes and implement remedial plans.

The position reports to the Administrator of Special Education and requires a Master’s in a relevant field and clinical licensure. Salary is aligned with Unit A, with a wide salary range and full-time commitment.

Qualifications

• Master’s in social work, guidance or psychology.
• Minimum of two years working experience with children under 18 in an educational, child guidance, mental health or clinical setting.
• DESE license: School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor and LICSW or LCSW preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide Direct services to Special Education Students requiring social/emotional/behavioral services as written in the IEP, including social skills groups, small groups, individual counseling and crisis intervention.
• Provide Clinical Consultation to staff for Special Education Students requiring this service as written in the IEP.
• Consults and collaborates with collateral service providers for Special Education Students to coordinate treatment planning and school-based interventions.
• Consults with school psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, principals, and classroom teachers to assess mental and emotional health and develop remedial plans.
• Consults with parents/guardians/school staff to help all parties understand and address anomalous behavior.
• Assist in developing IEP goals for students with social/emotional disabilities, behavior plans, and therapeutic interventions.
• Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments to facilitate eligibility, service delivery and planning.
• Available for Crisis Intervention for the general student population.
• Available for Clinical Consultation with all general and special education staff regarding student concerns.
• Provide referral information to obtain aid from public or private organizations in serious cases.
