Job summary

SMU is seeking a Scholarship Advisor to counsel students and families on financial aid and scholarships. You will administer awards, oversee external scholarships, and reconcile veteran education funds monthly.

The role supports enrollment goals with a student-centered approach and collaboration across departments. On-campus position requiring an in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and institutional aid regulations, as well as experience with financial aid software like PeopleSoft and CSS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Minimum of one year of work experience; preference for experience in student financial services.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication across University.
• Excellent written communication and professional demeanor.
• Knowledge of federal/state/institutional financial aid policies.

Responsibilities

• Counsel students and parents on financial aid and scholarships.
• Administer, coordinate, and reconcile scholarship awards.
• Lead in awarding external scholarships (National Merit, Gates Millennium, ROTC, United Methodist, etc.).
• Reconcile Veteran Affairs educational awards monthly.
• Participate in financial aid presentations and committees.
