Job summary

Tenet Healthcare is seeking a Surgical Coordinator/Scheduler to manage comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative scheduling for the assigned physician. The role includes coordinating surgical site appointments, securing authorizations and referrals, and ensuring surgeon preferences are met with available resources.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of surgical scheduling experience, strong EMR/EHR skills (NextGen or Athena preferred), and a solid healthcare background.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of experience in a medical setting, preferably in a physician practice.
• At least 2 years of surgical scheduling experience.
• Healthcare background strongly desirable.
• EMR/EHR experience preferred (NextGen or Athena).
• Proficiency in Word, Outlook, and Internet on Windows.

Responsibilities

• Provide complete pre-operative and post-operative surgical scheduling for assigned physician(s).
• Coordinate scheduling of surgical sites and appointments across physicians.
• Obtain authorizations and referrals from primary care physicians, specialists, and insurers.
• Explain procedures and assist callers or patients with courteous, friendly service.
• Maintain surgeon preferences with available resources and support.

The Surgical Coordinator/Scheduler is primarily responsible for providing complete patient pre-operative and post-operative surgical scheduling functions for the assigned physician. Coordinates scheduling of the surgical sites and appointments for all physicians while facilitating surgical dates with patients. Assure surgeon preferences with the available resources. Obtains necessary authorizations and referrals from primary care physicians, specialists, and insurance companies. Medical office coordinator and additional duties may be assigned.

Education / Experience

• Requires 1-3 years of experience in Medical Setting, preferably in Physician Practice
• Requires at least 2 years of surgical scheduling experience
• Healthcare background is strongly desirable
• EMR/EHR experience preferred, NextGen or Athena experience preferred
• Proficiency in a windows environment with a working knowledge of Word, Outlook, and the Internet is required
• Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a complex, matrix environment
