Job summary

Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces is seeking a Scheduler to join the Ear Nose Throat Institute. You will schedule tests, procedures, admissions, and obtain pre-certifications, while entering accurate insurance information in scheduling and registration systems.

We look for a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalent and healthcare scheduling experience; strong organizational and multitasking skills are essential to manage busy workloads and ensure timely patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 3 years of directly related experience may substitute for the education.
  • Healthcare scheduling experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred.
  • Computer experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patient testing, procedures and admissions and obtains pre-certifications/authorization; enters in scheduling or registration system.
  • Schedules all patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing/procedures/admissions ensuring staff availability.
  • Informs patient or physician office of out-of-network carriers or any benefit-impacting issues.
  • Informs patient or physician office staff of special instructions or testing requirements and provides pertinent documents.
  • Maintains knowledge of scheduling reports for the next day to coordinate patient registration and staffing.
  • Obtains physician orders and authorization; enters outpatient procedures in the Order Entry System.
  • Ensures consistency between scheduling and admissions modules for admitted patients.

How You'll Contribute

A Scheduler who excels in this role:

  • Schedules patient testing/procedures/admissions; obtains pre-cert/authorization numbers and enters in the scheduling or registration system; obtains and enters accurate insurance information; answers incoming phone calls
  • Schedules all patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing/procedures/admissions, ensuring that patients are not scheduled when personnel are unavailable.
  • Informs patient or physician's office staff of any carrier that is out of network or any issue that may result in a decrease of benefits.
  • Informs patient or physician's office staff of any special instructions or testing requirements, and/or provides any other pertinent information or documents.
  • Maintains knowledge of the scheduling reports for the next day to ensure patient registration staff are aware of patients presenting for services; appropriate testing is performed; time is available; appropriate staff are available for testing or procedures to be performed.
  • Obtains physician's orders and authorization/pre-certification. Enters outpatient procedures in the Order Entry System.
  • Ensures consistency between scheduling module and admissions module, for patients being admitted for services.
Education
What we're looking for
  • High school diploma or equivalent Required or at least three years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education.
Work Experience
  • Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred. Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred. Computer experience required
Skills
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work based upon patient/department needs.
