Job summary

Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, IL, is hiring a Centralized Scheduler to manage tests and procedures across departments. You will ensure complete patient demographics, insurance authorizations, and timely communication to relevant teams.

The role is 100% onsite with a supportive leadership team and opportunities for growth within the Holy Family system. Prior hospital scheduling or call-center experience is valued.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of multiple insurance authorization requirements.
  • 1–2 years hospital experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule tests and procedures for patients as needed.
  • Coordinate with departments for scheduling and resources.
  • Enter accurate patient demographics into the system, including insurance and authorizations.
  • Notify departments of services requiring equipment or supplies from outside vendors.
  • Prepare and distribute surgical schedules and on-call lists.

Responsibilities

The centralized scheduler is directly accountable to the Admitting Leadership the Centralized Scheduler routinely schedules tests/procedure cases for all patients where services occur as a scheduled event.This may include, but is not limited to; Clinic visits, Surgery, G.I. Lab, Cardiac Cath Lab, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy, Nutritional Services, Infusion units or any other location where scheduling of a test or procedure may occur. Coordinates with departments as necessary. Ensures that accurate, complete and thorough patient demographics are entered into the computer system, including insurance and authorizations if applicable. Notifies departments as necessary of various services that may require, equipment, instrumentation and supplies from outside vendors for scheduled surgeries. Prepares and distributes the surgical schedule and on call list to appropriate departments or personnel.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)2. Knowledge of multiple insurance authorization requirements 3. 1-2 year previous experience in a hospital environment preferred4. Knowledge of medical terminology5. Effective written and verbal communication skills6. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines7. Analytical and problem-solving skills8. Customer Services experience required9. Strong clerical and computer skills.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $18.50 to $23.13 The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
