Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., is hiring a Scale Clerk in the Detroit/Pontiac, MI area. The role weighs inbound/outbound vehicles, inspects loads, directs unloading, and assists in purchases.

You will operate scale equipment, maintain records, and support daily operations. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, strong math/data entry skills, and good communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required and candidate must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience in scrap industry is preferred.
• Computer experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Basic math and data entry skills are needed.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities as they arise.
• Pre-employment background check, physical and hair drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Weigh inbound and outbound vehicles and inspect loads for accuracy and quality.
• Direct loads to proper unloading areas and prepare shipping/purchase paperwork.
• Operate & maintain scale computer and enter material/inventory codes.
• Provide day-to-day training and guidance to the team.
• Coordinate with carriers, customers, and management; answer questions on materials and pricing.
• Maintain scale house and grounds and ensure safety and PPE compliance.
