Job summary

Waste Commission of Scott County in Davenport, IA, seeks a customer service oriented scale operator and administrative support person to accurately weigh, document, and process incoming and outgoing materials. You will assist customers, handle payments, and ensure compliance with safety and facility rules.

Under general supervision, you will perform clerical duties, maintain records, and support deliveries while helping prevent unacceptable or hazardous waste from entering the facility.

Qualifications

• AA degree or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Must pass post-offer physical and background check.
• Knowledge of Commission policies, procedures, operations, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operates a scale to accurately weigh incoming and outgoing materials and records weights, vehicle information, customer information, material types, and other required data.
• Performs administrative, clerical, and customer service duties necessary for the efficient scale operation, including maintaining records, preparing documents, processing transactions, and providing general office support.
• Processes customer transactions and payments, collects fees from scale customers, issues receipts, and assists with billing business customers in accordance with established procedures.
• Communicates directly with scale customers and the general public regarding Commission facility operations, services, fees, procedures, rules, and requirements.
• Monitors CB radio and telephone communications for incoming and outgoing traffic, operational updates, and facility alerts; communicates with team members regarding material movement and changes.
• Reviews incoming material loads for proper handling and directs haulers and the general public to appropriate areas for disposal or processing.
• Follows and communicates applicable facility safety protocols, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements to customers, haulers, and visitors.
