Job summary

City of Mesa is seeking a Utilities Control Center Operator I trainee to learn monitoring and operation of the SCADA system for water distribution, natural gas usage, and wastewater flow. You will handle after-hours inquiries from City of Mesa customers and dispatch necessary personnel as required.

This position involves working varying shifts, weekends, and holidays. Progression to Utilities Control Center Operator II is possible after one year of service, contingent on training and performance

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED is required.
• Certification requirements include ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment System Operator or Water Distribution System Operator; Grade II required within 24 months; gas system operator certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Learn to monitor and operate SCADA for water, gas, and wastewater.
• Receive after-hours calls and dispatch appropriate personnel.
• Determine urgency and route to correct department and stand-by personnel.
• May work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Eligible to progress after one year of service to Utilities Control Center Operator II.

Education

Grade 1 Water Treatment System Operator

Grade II Water Distribution System Operator

Gas system operator certification (49 CFR)
