Job summary

Ducommun, Inc. in Parsons, Kansas, is seeking a Saw & Vacuum Form Operator to set up and operate friction saws and vacuum forming presses to shape metal and nonmetal parts per blueprints. You will read drawings, lay out parts, change blades, and maintain a clean, safe 6S workspace while supporting other departments. The role involves SPC data collection and quality checks for continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints/Mylar drawings.
• Math skills: decimals, percentages, fractions.
• Basic computer skills for simple software and screens.

Responsibilities

• Set up friction saw and vacuum press to form parts.
• Lay out parts per blueprints and nets, cut within tolerance.
• Grind and deburr parts for safe handling at next operation.
• Change broken blades and maintain clean work area (6S).
• Collect SPC data and ensure quality buyoff on parts.

Saw & Vacuum Form Operator

Set up and operate machine tools such
as vacuum box or friction saw to form and/or cut metallic and nonmetallic work
pieces to blueprint tolerance. Duties will vary to
the assigned machine or task.

Job Summary

• Vertical high speed friction saw
  - Lay out of parts by scribing net lines and cutting within .100 of lines.
  - Order blueprints and fixtures to determine net areas of parts.
  - Grind and deburr all parts so they can be handled safely at next operation.
  - Change broken blades as needed.
  - Maintain clean and organized work area per 6s check list.
  Vacuum Forming - sets up and operates vacuum press to form sheet metal into structural shapes.
  - Loads and unloads parts and dies into vacuum press.
  - Starts and stops chart recorder that records time and temperature.
  - Obtains quality buyoff on parts and chart record.
  
• Checks own work and takes first part to quality inspection.
  
• Able to adjust process for additional parts to keep within control limits for SPC as needed.
  
• Collects SPC data according to the control plan attached to the work order.
  
• Cross trained in Blast dept.
  
• Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to operate a forklift.
  
• Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, protractor, tape measure, height gage, and scales.
  
• Prior operation of machinery helpful.
  
• Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
  
• Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.
  
• Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  
• Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
  

Required Experience and Education

• High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
