Job summary

Ducommun Incorporated in Carson, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer I to optimize manufacturing processes for aerospace, defense and industrial products. You will support lean initiatives, line balancing, RCCA activities, and development of assembly layouts and tooling to improve throughput and quality.

You will work with cross-functional teams on new product introductions, create routings, train staff, and perform time studies ensuring best practices and compliance with engineering

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 0-3 years’ experience in a production environment.
  • Basic understanding of 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams is a plus.
  • Proficiency with reading/interpretation of drawings and specifications.
  • CAD/CAM software experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate computer skills: email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement projects using lean and six sigma tools.
  • Support cross functional teams on RCCA activities for CARs and DMRs.
  • Assist in designing manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production layouts.
  • Help design, test, and validate tooling and fixtures.
  • Support production operations and address technical issues.
  • Assist NPI teams with development of processes for new products.
  • Create and update routing information (cycle times, notes).
  • Train production personnel on tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Conduct process audits and time studies.
  • Coordinate with vendors on technical issues as needed.
  • Other assignments as required.

Manufacturing Engineer I

Engineers in this general category are concerned with determiningthe optimal manufacturing methods and process for producing company products.Understanding of lean improvement methodology, ergonomics, time studies forreducing waste and excess, line balancing, 6S, Kaizens, etc.

Job Summary
  • Supportcontinuous improvement projects utilizing lean and six sigma tools.

  • Supportthe design, test and validation of tooling and fixtures.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of acrylic machining, painting processes, andassembly tooling.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret blueprints,manufacturing plans, specifications and purchase orders, professional journals,technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectivelypresent information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,customers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and drawvalid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technicalinstructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract andconcrete variables.
  • Ability to contribute/participate on cross-functional,problem-solving teams.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office; Excel and Word.
  • Working knowledge of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) System desired but not mandatory.
  • Ability towork independently, with a higher level of judgment making skills.
Required Experience and Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or
    Related Engineering Field.
  • 0-3 years’ experience in a production environment, preferably with electromechanical, aerospace, and industrial applications.
  • Basic understanding of 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams on projects a plus
  • Professional knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes together with work measurement and work standards
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • CAD/CAM software experience (AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Inventor, Virtual Gibbs) is a plus
  • Working knowledge at an intermediate level of computer skills in e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Base Compensation: USD 80,000.00 - 950,000.00Paid Salaried
