The University of Vermont is seeking a Skilled Crafts & Trades OC3 N to operate, repair and maintain steam and hydronic heating systems across campus. You will liaise with building occupants and other university staff to ensure safe, efficient operation and energy conservation.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, vocational training and three years of heating/cooling experience; VT fuel oil burner certificate and VT gas certification or ability to obtain

Operate, repair and maintain steam and hydronic heating systems and its associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Contact building occupants as required and update building operations to ensure maximum energy conservation. Communicate with a variety of university personnel to effectively and efficiently manage the utility resources. Access information utilizing appropriate desktop applications. Promote a workplace that encourages safety within the Shop and field. May operate University vehicle. This position reports to a supervisor and requires active engagement in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer service experiences.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) High school diploma, vocational courses and three years of experience in heating and/or cooling systems maintenance. VT Fuel Oil Burning Equipment Installer (Limited) Certificate and a VT Natural Gas Certification or ability to obtain within one year required. Familiarity with boiler automation systems. Effective verbal communication skills required. A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain and driver’s check required. Experience using computers required. Comfortable in confined spaces and with heights. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) when performing specific job functions. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check.
Special Conditions Bargaining Unit Position - United Electrical Workers, A probationary period may be required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, 40 hour work week, This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position
