Job Description Summary
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the sanitation and cleanliness of the facility, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards. This role involves leading and managing a team of sanitation workers, coordinating cleaning schedules, and ensuring that all areas of the facility, including production, storage, and common areas, are properly cleaned and maintained. The Sanitation Supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, hygienic environment to prevent contamination and ensure that products meet quality and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The Sanitation Supervisor manages the cleanliness and health standards of our facility. The following items are to be done by the Supervisor or in coordination with the Sanitation Team.
- Understand plant safety expectations and ensure policies and procedures are being followed by all personnel on your shift. Audit for compliance as part of your rounds. Positively reinforce where performance is as expected. Confront/performance manage those whose behaviors do not meet expectations. Refer repeat offenders for corrective action.
- Understand plant quality expectations and ensure policies and procedures are being followed by all personnel on your shift. Positively reinforce where performance is as expected. - Where employee behaviors violate Red Light safety or quality policies, address the immediate situation and contact HR Manager or Plant Manager per established protocol to align on next steps
- Manage safety and quality issues and incidents on your shift per established plant protocols
- Coordinate resources to deliver targeted performance per the production/sanitation plan.
- Manage and approve employee time off requests per established protocol.
- Escalate employee needs or concerns where the issue or need is not one you can manage per plant policy.
- Collect and report information on sanitation performance
- Lead an effective pre shift meeting with shift employees to ensure the plan, staffing and priorities for the shift are clearly understood.
- Assist in the development of and maintenance of the Sanitation program (HACCP, Allergen, ETC) for a variety of products in compliance with customer and government regulations.
- Assist with development of Sanitation procedures and paperwork.
- Provides appropriate leadership to ensure compliance with industry and internal food safety / sanitation standards, BRC, and/or other state and local Food Safety regulatory agencies
- Assist with the management of the Master Sanitation Schedule
- Ensure that all chemicals used in the plant are approved for such use that all chemicals have current MSDS information on site.
- Maintains a cost-effective Sanitation budget
- Partners with production personnel in developing sanitary procedures SSOP, training, and auditing tools
- Directs cleaning of equipment, facilities, and all work areas in conjunction with other departments
- Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation issues and Food Safety
- Maintains accurate and timely sanitation records in compliance with all regulatory audits, including SQF, BRC
- Follows all food safety procedures
- Reports and performs investigations of all injuries or near misses
Qualifications
Qualifications & Competencies
- High school diploma required, associate or bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of supervisory/Sanitation experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Proficiency in production management software and Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and quality control processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Comfortable working in a factory environment with exposure to noise, heat, and machinery
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Rain Gear)
