Job summary

Peerless-AV is seeking a grinder/sander to join our night shift in Aurora, IL. You will grind and sand welded parts to our standards and ensure surfaces meet quality requirements. The role runs from 1:30 to 10:00 pm, and you will work on metal parts to specification.

This position requires operating various grinders and sanders, inspecting finished work for defects, and maintaining a clean, safe work area while following Peerless-AV safety rules.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: 1 year related experience and/or training.
• Skills: basic grinding, sanding, and tool operation per job duties.

Responsibilities

• Select grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications.
• Operate large and small angle grinders, belt sanders, die grinders, and orbital sanders.
• Visually and physically inspect parts for dents, scratches, rust to remove.
• Remove scratches, tool marks, excess weld material, sharp edges, burrs.
• Perform general clean-up of equipment and work area.
• Assist with material handling as needed and follow safety rules.

To Grind and Sand welded parts to company standards and specifications. This position will work from 1:30 - 10:00 pm.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High school diploma or general educational development (GED)

Experience:

• 1-year related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Skills:

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required

ESSENTIAL RESULTS:

• Select grade of abrasive belt, wheel, sand rolls or disk, according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to various grinding and polishing tools.
• Must be able to operate, but not limited to, the following tools: large angle grinders, small angle grinders, belt sanders, die grinders, orbital sanders, drum sanders and hand files.
• Visually and physically, inspect parts for any dents, scratches and rust that needs to be removed.
• Using tools on surface of work piece to remove scratches, tool marks, excess weld material, sharp edges and burrs
• Perform general clean-up duties of the equipment and surrounding areas.
• May perform basic material handling duties with the use of manual pallet jack and/or forklift to move material and stage materials.Adhere to all Peerless and OSHA safety related work rules and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Must be able to work overtime, including weekends as needed.
• Must be physically capable of standing/bending/stooping/squeezing 8+ hour shift(s)
• Must be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 30 pounds on a given day, without assistance. Anything above 30 lbs. will be a team lift.
• Must have the ability to push, pull material and equipment as needed.

Must be able to wear required safety equipment including gloves, glasses and respirators.
