Ottenweller Company Inc. in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Shot Blast Operator for the 2nd shift to operate hand-held grinders and grinding machines, selecting abrasives and applying them to metal surfaces to remove scratches and burrs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and basic math, reading comprehension, and the ability to follow instructions. You will perform inspections, maintenance, and support a safe, productive manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate hand-held grinding equipment and abrasives.
• Operates grinder to remove scratches, weld material, and burrs.
• Deslags and polishes surfaces to a smooth finish.
• Sets up and operates grinding machines, loads parts, and runs equipment.
• Conducts first-piece and in-process inspections per blueprint with tape measure.
• Performs preventive maintenance on grinding equipment and logs activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Shot Blast Operator - 2nd shift (Fort Wayne, IN)

Selects type of hand-held grinding equipment to be used and selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal and attaches to grinder.

Operates hand-held grinder and moves it over surface of workpiece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs.

Deslags parts and polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.

Sets up and operates grinding machines by setting controls, placing parts into machine, starting machine, and running parts.

Performs first-piece and in-process inspection by checking dimensions of part per blueprint using tape measure or appropriate alternate. Inspects parts according to C=0 chart. Completes inspection form.

Performs preventative maintenance on grinding equipment, including but not limited to replacing worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts, greasing and cleaning machines, and checking water and coolant levels. Completes maintenance log.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; previous manufacturing experience and/or training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
