As a behind-the-chair salon manager, you may work up to 16 hours per week behind the chair with your own clientele, alongside your team. Leaders coach and motivate their team to become top salon professionals, supporting the business to drive retail and service results through marketing, networking, and promoting client loyalty. Primary Responsibilities
  • Client Experience
    • Lead by example in all interactions with clients, supporting stylists to ensure an exceptional experience.
    • Create an environment that inspires client loyalty through coaching and feedback.
    • Motivate and engage the team to provide exceptional service through communication, coaching, and recognition.
    • Provide hair styling services including cut/style, chemical services, and others as needed to meet client expectations professionally.
  • Team Development
    • Proactively recruit qualified stylists via social media, recruiting websites, referrals, and engagement with local salons and cosmetology schools.
    • Offer frequent, balanced coaching and feedback to improve effectiveness.
    • Create learning opportunities that promote career growth.
    • Ensure stylists complete available training by scheduling courses internally.
    • Foster loyalty, passion, and growth by maintaining an inclusive, respectful, and fun environment.
  • Business Performance
    • Review reports to identify opportunities, determine root causes, and set strategies to meet productivity, rebooking, and client acquisition goals.
    • Achieve profit objectives by managing salary costs.
  • Merchandising
    • Adjust based on salon layout while maintaining standards.
    • Identify merchandising, replenishment, and recovery opportunities through salon walk-throughs.
    • Handle product-related issues impacting clients.
    • Manage backbar expenses.
  • Performance Standards / Programs
    • Meet performance standards including sales, client experience, productivity, and attendance.
    • Follow all company programs and regulations, advising associates accordingly.
  • Cosmetology License
    • A current cosmetology license is required in the applying state.
