Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Salmonella Technical Officer to support APHA’s Salmonella strategy. The role involves auditing laboratories, providing training, and ensuring compliance with Defra procedures across multiple UK sites.

The post is a fixed-term contract with travel to APHA Weybridge and external sites. This role offers oversight of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories and engagement with the One Health team to deliver expert reporting and quality assurance

Qualifications

• Auditing and advisory services for APHA and DALs.
• Oversight of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories under CSPO and PHS under TARP.
• Write reports and provide training to DALs and UKAS/VETQAS teams.
• Maintain ISO17025, ISO9001 and ISO17043 expertise.
• Coordinate audits and development of training materials.

Responsibilities

• Provide external and internal auditing, training, and advisory services for APHA and DALs at multiple locations across the UK.
• Liaise with UKAS, VETQAS, and DALs teams to appraise laboratory approvals.
• Oversee performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories for NCP samples under CSPO and PHS samples under TARP.
• Prepare audits (and reports) of laboratories for Defra approval.
• Coordinate and advise on the DAL inspection programme and quality assurance activities.
• Contribute to research projects and publications when possible.
