Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Salmonella Technical Officer to support APHA’s Salmonella strategy. The role involves auditing Defra-approved laboratories, providing training, and ensuring ISO17025/ISO9001 standards across DAL sites in the UK. Travel to multiple sites is required, with the post fixed-term to 31 March 2028.

The role requires microbiology expertise and strong quality assurance experience, coordinating with UKAS, DALs and the NRL to maintain high laboratory standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in microbiology and laboratory quality systems.
• Knowledge of Defra procedures and DAL/SBP auditing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Audit laboratories across multiple UK sites and write associated reports.
• Provide auditing, training and advisory services for APHA and DALs.
• Oversee performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories (NCP) and CSPO/PHS samples.
• Develop and communicate quality initiatives across the DAL network.
• Coordinate with UKAS, VETQAS, APHA One Health and DAL teams on approvals and compliance.
