Do you want a role safeguarding standards of animal and plant health and welfare? APHA seeks a microbiologist for the Salmonella Technical Officer post to support the Salmonella strategy, audit laboratories, and provide training. The post is fixed-term until 31 March 2028, based at a UK APHA location, with responsibilities spanning auditing, reports, and QA across DAL laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Provide external and internal auditing, training, and advisory services for APHA and DALs at multiple locations across the UK.
• Oversee the performance of Defra-approved Salmonella testing laboratories for the National Control Programme (NCP).
• Deliver expert appraisal of applications for laboratory approval and write associated reports.
• Coordinate audits of laboratories and provide training and QA documentation to ensure compliance with ISO/EN standards.
