Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) seeks an experienced Sales & Use Tax professional in the Houston area to support research, planning, and audit-related activities. You will prepare memos, assist with reverse audits and tax planning, and collaborate with client teams to improve operational performance in tax processes.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, 3+ years in sales & use tax at a public accounting or consulting firm, and proficiency with Vertex and SAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• CMI with IPIT, CPA, JD or LLM preferred or in process.
• At least 3 years in a sales & use tax practice at a public accounting or large consulting firm.
• Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
• Strong writing, analytical, research, Excel, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication, presentation, project management, and business development skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed tax research memorandums and client-ready materials.
• Support reverse audits, controversy matters, and tax planning initiatives.
• Develop relationships with clients and internal teams.
• Assist with marketing materials, proposals, and client deliverables.
• Research tax rules to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Maintain audit documentation and support audits and due diligence.
• Conduct multi-state tax research and summarize findings for stakeholders.
• Assist with reserves and incentives coordination and tax system improvements.
