Job description

Build growth in the next generation of power and energy technology.

Metglas® is looking for a Power Sales Manager to join our North American Sales team and help expand the use of Metglas® technology across the power and utility markets.

This is a highly technical, customer facing sales role for someone who understands that successful industrial sales is about much more than taking orders. You will work directly with customers, engineers, production teams, R&D, Quality, and our international sales organization to develop opportunities, improve forecasting, support new product introductions, and help customers understand where Metglas can provide a competitive advantage.

The role is particularly focused on power and utility applications, with responsibility for developing key customer relationships, growing share within high potential accounts, and helping convert appropriate applications to Metglas products.

What you'll do:
Customer & Account Development
  • Manage direct customer relationships across North American power and utility markets.
  • Develop account level strategies designed to grow share within high growth customers.
  • Build strong relationships not only with purchasing and commercial contacts, but also with engineering and new product teams.
  • Work closely with customers to understand technical requirements and identify opportunities for Metglas solutions.
  • Respond quickly to customer inquiries and coordinate internal resources to move opportunities forward.
  • Support design-in activities and manage projects from initial customer requirements through development and commercialization.
Forecasting & Production Planning
  • Own accurate sales forecasting and CRM data management for assigned accounts.
  • Work closely with customers to develop robust demand forecasts and improve production planning.
  • Coordinate customer requirements with Metglas production and sales teams in both the United States and Japan.
  • Identify potential supply or demand issues early and communicate them across the organization.
  • Help streamline sales activities and improve margins through better planning, visibility and execution.
Market & Competitive Development
  • Research the power and utility markets and monitor industry and technology developments.
  • Analyze competing products and technologies and communicate how Metglas compares in relevant applications.
  • Identify market opportunities where the technical and economic advantages of Metglas can create customer value.
  • Develop sales materials, market information and other tools that support growth and competitive positioning.
  • Stay current on developments in the transformer, utility and broader power industry.
Technical & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with R&D and Quality on comparative product data, customer requirements and new product launches.
  • Translate customer needs into actionable information for internal engineering and product development teams.
  • Participate as an integral member and leader of cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate communication between North American customers, Metglas operations and our sister facilities in Japan.
  • Help identify cost effective innovations and technology developments that can strengthen Metglas' position in the market.
What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who can combine commercial relationship building with technical understanding.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in one or more of the following:

  • Power generation, transmission, distribution or utility markets
  • Transformers or transformer components
  • Electrical or magnetic materials
  • Industrial technical sales
  • Applications engineering
  • Technical business development
  • Forecasting, production planning and CRM management

You should be comfortable talking with a customer’s purchasing organization one day and their engineering team the next.

You should also be comfortable working across functions and across cultures, particularly when coordinating between North American customers and international manufacturing and sales teams.

What will make you successful:

During the first 6-18 months, success will be measured by your ability to:

  • Improve forecast accuracy and sales visibility.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
  • Identify and develop opportunities within high-growth accounts.
  • Support successful design-in and new-product-development efforts.
  • Improve communication between customers, North American teams and Japan.
  • Develop actionable competitive and market intelligence.
  • Help grow sales while improving the efficiency and profitability of the business.
  • Become a knowledgeable resource on the North American power and utility market.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-8+ years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in the power, utility, transformer or related industrial market strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish commercial relationships and develop account level strategies.
  • Experience providing technical solutions to customers and coordinating with internal technical resources.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills.
  • Experience working with CRM systems and sales forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong customer focus and responsiveness.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Approximately 33% domestic and international travel required.

A plus: Experience working with government agencies such as the DOE, familiarity with the transformer market, or experience with specialized power technologies.

Why Metglas?

Metglas® technology sits at the intersection of materials science, power efficiency and the future of the electrical grid.

This role offers the opportunity to work with sophisticated industrial customers and help identify applications where advanced materials can provide meaningful performance and efficiency advantages.

If you are a technically minded sales professional who enjoys building customer relationships, solving problems, working across engineering and commercial teams, and developing markets not simply maintaining accounts, we’d like to hear from you.
