Job description

Sales Engineer

Sales Engineers (SEs) are responsible for growing the market share of Sage Publications' courseware platforms by advancing the sales opportunity pipeline, securing high-value renewals, and onboarding new customers within their regions. This cross-functional role requires strong consultative selling skills, technical expertise, presentation skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a results-driven approach. SEs collaborate closely with Sales and Sales Enablement teams to meet regional adoption and revenue goals. After closing sales, SEs coordinate with internal teams to ensure technical requirements are met, onboarding is smooth, and successful outcomes are achieved.

Job Functions
  1. Sales & Pipeline Management
  2. Proactively manage sales efforts within designated regions, establishing a robust pipeline during peak seasons.
  3. Conduct capability demonstrations for prospective and renewing customers, emphasizing technical post-sale requirements.
  4. Travel to college campuses or work remotely to sell products and support Sales Reps.
  5. Achieve regional sales, subscription, and revenue targets.
  6. Track customer interactions and sales opportunities in CRM.
  7. Gather and communicate technical requirements for large adoptions.
  8. Ensure smooth transition from sales to implementation.
  1. Onboarding & Customer Success
  2. Coordinate with Implementation to meet technical onboarding requirements.
  3. Handoff key customers to Customer Engagement for onboarding services.
  4. Support start-of-semester activities and monitor courseware registrations.
  5. Drive attendance at onboarding webinars and leverage relationships for upselling and referrals.
  1. Internal Collaboration
  2. Build trust and collaborate with internal partners across divisions.
  3. Assist with sales training and technical competency initiatives.
  4. Work with product and editorial teams to create sales presentations.
  5. Provide customer insights for product improvements and market intelligence.
  1. Business Travel
  2. Travel 20-60% for campus visits during peak seasons and occasional trainings.
  3. Attend internal sales meetings and other events as needed.
Qualifications & Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in B2B Sales with some college coursework.
  • 3+ years in B2B Sales, preferably in technology, education, or publishing.
  • Experience with in-person and virtual sales presentations and customer training.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work 50+ hours/week during peak seasons.
  • Effective cross-departmental collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to personal development and learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred:

  • Sales training/certifications.
  • Experience with LMS platforms like Blackboard or Canvas.
  • Experience with online learning platforms and data analytics tools like PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI).
