Job summary

Canam Steel Corporation in the United States seeks an Estimator to analyze contract drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare cost estimates for steel joist and deck projects. Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering with structural emphasis preferred (experience can replace degree).
• EIT or ability to obtain licensure in the future preferred.
• Previous steel design experience preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procedures.
• Ability to speak effectively with customers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• PC skills include AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; Revit or BlueBeam a plus.

• Utilizes BlueBeam to conduct takeoffs and record work efficiently.
• Inputs takeoffs into CSC Design and Pricing software to determine accurate project costing.
• Designs components using software to meet applicable specifications and codes (SJI, SDI, AISC, AWS).
• Verifies specification of steel joists and deck based on contract documents.
• Reviews and redesigns members for economy and weight savings.
• Provides budgetary designs and pricing for joist and deck products from minimal customer information.
• Prepares scope of work with exclusions, clarifications, and conditions; lists bid documents and dates used.
• Answers engineering questions from CSC Estimators, Sales, and Customers.
• Reviews estimator designs for accuracy and conformance to structural notes.
• Assists with change order pricing and accuracy.
• Maintains a positive work atmosphere with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.

Job Summary:

Provides additional design guidance to both CSC sales and customers regarding value engineering opportunities as well as preliminary design budgets. Serves as the technical support for both CSC sales and estimating.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Reviews contract documents to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.


• Utilizes BlueBeam to conduct efficient takeoffs and record of work.


• Inputs takeoff into CSC Design and Pricing software to determine accurate project costing.


• Design components using computer software to meet the requirements of applicable specifications and codes (SJI, SDI, AISC, AWS, etc).


• Verify specification of steel joists and deck based on requirements presented in the contract documents.


• Reviews and redesigns members for greater economy and/or weight savings.


• Provides budgetary designs and pricing for joist and deck products given only basic conceptual information from the customer.

• Answers engineering questions from CSC Estimators, Sales, and Customers.

REQUIREMENTS:

• BS in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering with preference for structural emphasis (experience can be replacement for formal degree although some formal education required)


• EIT or ability to obtain licensure in the future preferred


• Previous steel design experience preferred


• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procedures


• Ability to speak effectively with customers


• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal


• PC skills to include the following software: AutoCAD and Microsoft Suite of Products. Revit or BlueBeam skills a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
