The Sales Engineer will serve as a technical partner to the PowerOne Sales organization, manufacturers' representatives, customers, and consulting engineers, providing application expertise and engineering support throughout the sales process.
This role is responsible for translating customer and project requirements into appropriate AIRSYS product selections, system configurations, performance calculations, technical proposals, equipment schedules, and submittal documentation. The Sales Applications Engineer will support opportunities from the early qualification and design stages through quotation, specification, submittal, and order execution.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, data center cooling, and thermal-management systems with strong communication and commercial skills. The role will work closely with Sales, Applications Engineering, Product Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are technically sound, competitively positioned, and delivered within required customer timelines.
The Sales Engineer will also support hyperscale operators, colocation and wholesale providers, large enterprise data center owners, and the OEM and integrator partners who embed or resell thermal equipment. The Sales Engineer will support customer and consulting engineer meetings, deliver technical presentations, assist with RFIs and value-engineering requests, and position AIRSYS PowerOne solutions across air cooling, liquid cooling, chillers, CRAH/FanWall systems, CDUs, and integrated thermal-management applications. The overall objective of this role is to help Sales win more business by providing fast, accurate, technically credible, and commercially competitive solutions that make AIRSYS easy to specify and buy.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- ESSENTIAL
The essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Technical Sales Support
- Serve as the primary technical resource to the Sales team, manufacturers' representatives, and customers.
- Translate customer requirements into technically appropriate AIRSYS PowerOne solutions.
- Support product selection, system configuration, capacity calculations, and technical proposals.
- Provide technical guidance throughout the sales cycle, from opportunity qualification through order.
- Develop strong relationships with customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in customer and consulting engineer meetings to understand technical requirements and position AIRSYS solutions.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and lunch-and-learns.
- Support specification development and help position AIRSYS products in project requirements and basis-of-design documents.
Opportunity Development & Sales Execution
- Partner with Sales to identify, develop, and advance qualified opportunities.
- Provide technical support during customer evaluations, competitive situations, and value-engineering exercises.
- Help identify opportunities to expand the PowerOne portfolio within existing and new accounts.
- Assist Sales in developing technically sound and commercially competitive proposals.
- Prepare and review equipment selections, performance data, schedules, drawings, technical proposals, and submittal documentation.
- Respond to RFIs, technical questions, and application challenges.
- Coordinate with Applications Engineering to resolve complex or non-standard requirements.
- Ensure technical deliverables are accurate, complete, and aligned with customer requirements.
Competitive & Market Support
- Develop a strong understanding of competing cooling technologies, products, and manufacturers.
- Support competitive analysis and clearly communicate AIRSYS technical differentiators.
- Provide market feedback to Sales, Product Management, and Engineering regarding customer requirements, competitive trends, and product gaps.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Applications Engineering, Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Service to support customer opportunities.
- Communicate customer requirements, project schedules, lead-time expectations, and technical issues internally.
- Help ensure a smooth transition from opportunity development through order and project execution.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant technical sales experience.
- At least five years of technical or solution sales experience in HVAC, precision cooling, thermal management, power, or mission-critical infrastructure, including direct experience selling into data centers.
- Demonstrated success opening new accounts with no prior relationship and carrying them through to first order..
- Working technical command of chiller and heat rejection equipment sufficient to hold a credible conversation with a facilities engineer or engineer of record without applications support present.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex buying organizations, including vendor qualification, standards adoption, and approved-manufacturer processes.
- Experience carrying and achieving an individual quota, with disciplined pipeline management and forecast accuracy.
- Written and verbal communication sufficient to present to engineering, operations, and executive audiences.
- Willingness and ability to travel above fifty percent, domestically and occasionally internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships within the hyperscale, colocation, or wholesale data center operator community.
- Experience in technically supporting OEM partners, integrators, or embedded equipment channels.
- Experience with liquid cooling, coolant distribution units, fan walls, rack-level thermal products, or heat-reuse applications.
- Experience working alongside an independent manufacturers' representative channel without displacing it.
- Familiarity with data center design and construction processes, including the roles of consulting engineers, general contractors, and commissioning agents.
- Experience introducing a new or unfamiliar manufacturer into an established customer standard.
