Our client is hiring a Sales Engineer to own the technical side of the sales process — from discovery and demonstration through technical validation and pilot design. You will become the primary owner of demos involving our client's APIs, developer tools, data products, and Performance Analytics. You will work directly with prospects to understand their workflows, select and validate the right data, configure tailored analytics, and build lightweight applications or proofs of concept. This work is currently performed primarily by Product. Your mandate is to make technical selling a reliable, repeatable capability while allowing Product and Engineering to remain focused on building the platform. This is a hands‑on role for someone equally comfortable leading a customer conversation, troubleshooting an API response, validating a dataset, building a small application, and presenting the resulting business value to an executive audience.
Responsibilities
- Join sales calls to understand prospects' workflows, architecture, data sources, technical constraints, and desired outcomes.
- Determine whether an opportunity requires a standard demo, tailored analytics, an API walkthrough, a proof of concept, or a pilot.
- Build and deliver compelling demonstrations of our client's APIs, data lake, SDKs, dashboard, and Performance Analytics.
- Adapt the story for executives, product leaders, agronomists, data scientists, and software engineers.
- Explain our client's approach to provider connections, authentication, data ingestion, normalization, webhooks, data models, security, and implementation.
- Build analytics demos and prototypes
- Configure dashboards, reports, maps, and analytical workflows using prospect‑relevant data.
- Demonstrate use cases such as product‑performance analysis, commercial‑trial analysis, yield‑data cleaning, and comparisons across management, soil, weather, and product variables.
- Build lightweight applications, scripts, notebooks, and integrations using our client's APIs and SDKs.
- Validate data completeness, account mappings, field associations, permissions, and processing before customer‑facing meetings.
- Clearly distinguish between a sales prototype, a pilot deliverable, and production‑ready functionality.
Operationalize technical selling
- Establish a repeatable process for demo intake, scoping, preparation, rehearsal, delivery, and follow‑up.
- Maintain stable demo accounts, curated datasets, reusable applications, code samples, architecture diagrams, and recorded fallbacks.
- Train account executives to deliver standard portions of the story independently.
- Translate successful demos into technically sound pilot scopes, architectures, success criteria, and implementation plans.
- Capture recurring requirements, objections, product gaps, and integration needs for Product and Engineering.
- Identify priorities and opportunities across different prospects, helping the Product team focus on the most valuable improvements, features, and new products.
- Build technical (software and agronomy) reputation in the market, helping to evangelize customers and prospects on our client's solutions and technology.
- Participate in conferences, webinars, and podcasts presenting our client's technology to a large audience.
- Reduce last‑minute Product and Engineering involvement while escalating genuine defects and roadmap questions appropriately.
What Success Looks Like
Within six months, you will:
- Become the default technical owner for our client's sales demonstrations.
- Independently prepare and deliver most API and Performance Analytics demos.
- Establish reliable demo accounts, datasets, applications, and preparation checklists.
- Shorten the time from discovery to a tailored demonstration.
- Improve demo reliability and technical‑demo‑to‑pilot conversion.
- Give Product structured market feedback instead of ad hoc demo requests.
- Meaningfully reduce Product and Engineering time spent on routine presales work.
Qualifications
- 4+ years in sales engineering, solutions engineering, solutions architecture, technical consulting, developer advocacy, or a similar customer‑facing technical role.
- Experience conducting technical discovery and delivering software demonstrations.
- Fluency with REST APIs, JSON, authentication, webhooks, and SDKs.
- Working knowledge of SQL and experience validating and troubleshooting real‑world datasets.
- Strong technical storytelling and presentation skills across executive and technical audiences.
- Ability to remain calm and adapt when live software or data does not behave as expected.
- Comfortable operating in an early‑stage environment where processes and assets are still being built.
Experience with agricultural technology, geospatial data, machinery data, analytics, GIS, or farm‑management platforms is strongly preferred.
