We are seeking a technical relationship builder who creates and grows capital-equipment sales opportunities.
Travel: 20-30%; primarily U.S. and mostly air.
Growth path: Sales or division leadership potential.
About the Role
The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing new and existing customer relationships for our medical-device manufacturing equipment and medical-device packaging solutions.
This is a technical capital-equipment sales role requiring both hunter and farmer capabilities: creating new opportunities, developing our established customer and prospect database, visiting customers, and expanding relationships by understanding how customers manufacture and package their products. The role is on-site when not traveling and is designed for a technically curious, service-minded seller who can grow into broader sales or division leadership.
Responsibilities
- New-business development. Proactively identify, contact, and develop prospective customers through our database, referrals, marketing leads, trade shows, targeted outreach, and market research.
- Account growth. Maintain and deepen relationships with existing customers, including equipment-anniversary outreach, application reviews, site visits, and discovery of additional needs.
- Technical discovery. Learn how customers manufacture and package their products; ask effective questions; connect customer problems to appropriate our capabilities and solutions.
- Customer visits and travel. Travel throughout the United States for customer meetings, facility visits, demonstrations, trade shows, and opportunity development. International travel may occur occasionally.
- Opportunity management. Qualify opportunities, establish next steps, coordinate resources, maintain momentum through long capital-equipment sales cycles, and communicate realistic forecasts.
- Proposal coordination. Work with Applications Engineering, Sales Support, Engineering, and Costing to develop accurate quotations and presentations; explain scope, options, tradeoffs, and value to the customer.
- Relationship stewardship. Follow through consistently, serve customers honestly, and pursue solutions that genuinely help rather than selling unnecessary options.
- CRM discipline. Maintain complete contact, activity, opportunity, quote, forecast, and follow-up information; use CRM reports and customer history to plan outreach.
- Digital selling. Lead effective Microsoft Teams meetings, share drawings and documents, communicate professionally by phone and email, and use modern sales and collaboration tools independently.
- Cross-functional coordination. Work with Applications Engineering, Engineering, Service, Operations, Marketing, and leadership to align customer needs with our capabilities.
- Market feedback. Report customer trends, competitor activity, emerging applications, and product opportunities that may support future growth.
Qualifications
- 3 + years of successful technical, industrial, automation, capital-equipment, or closely related B2B sales experience.
- Demonstrated success developing new business and maintaining long-term customer relationships; must enjoy both hunting and farming activities.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to learn equipment, manufacturing processes, and customer terminology quickly.
- Ability to discover customer needs, connect technical problems to solutions, and communicate value without overselling.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20-30%, primarily by air within the United States, based on customer and trade-show needs.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Teams, digital presentations, shared files, email, and standard business software.
- Strong communication, presentation, listening, organization, persistence, and independent follow-through skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Morristown, New Jersey, when not traveling. Relocation is considered only for exceptional candidates.
Required Skills
- Selling custom machinery, automation, industrial equipment, packaging systems, or machine-control solutions with multi-month sales cycles and order values from approximately $30,000 to $1 million.
- Experience with medical-device manufacturers, machine builders, system integrators, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Engineering or related technical degree; equivalent technical sales success may be considered.
- Experience in an ISO 9001 quality management system and a structured operating system such as EOS.
Preferred Skills
- Develop enough mechanical and product knowledge to discuss our equipment and customer applications with confidence and know when to involve technical support.
- Demonstrate the ability to connect with people, use the CRM, pursue opportunities consistently, travel willingly, and represent our service-centered culture..
Opportunity Statement
The Sales Engineer must demonstrate our core values in daily decisions and relationships: Serving Others, Determination, Integrity, Constant Improvement, and Insightfulness. Success requires caring about customers and our colleague members as much as achieving sales results.
Work Environment and General Statement
This position works in office, manufacturing, customer, and trade-show environments. The employee must be able to travel, safely enter production areas, observe machinery in operation, and use required personal protective equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions.
