Job summary

Ryerson, a leader in industrial metal products and services, is seeking a Sales Engineer in Columbus, OH. You will engage with customers via phone and email, coordinating with internal and external partners to tailor product solutions and meet customer specs.

The role requires reading prints/CAD files, understanding tolerances, and estimating pricing. Experience with SAP and strong MS Office skills are highly valued, with a drive for technical sales excellence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; engineering degree preferred
• 1–3 years of sales experience in the metal industry
• Print reading required; CAD/drafting a plus
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred
• MS Office skills including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Working knowledge of geometry and strong math skills

Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications
• Full understanding of tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options for robust metal supply chain creation
• Manage part-specific supply chains using internal and external processing assets to meet quality and delivery requirements
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options on a part-level basis and develop contract pricing templates
• Evaluate sales proposals to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with quality standards
• Conduct technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer-specific prices
• All other duties as assigned

Roles and Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications
• Full understanding of tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options that will guide a robust metal supply chain creation
• Manage part specific supply chains by utilizing internal and external processing assets to meet customer quality and delivery requirements
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options on a part-level basis and develop contract pricing templates based on awarded work
• Evaluating sales proposals to ensure they are technically accurate and consistent with the organization’s quality standards
• Conducting technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer-specific prices
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
• 1-3 years of sales experience in the metal industry
• Print reading required. CAD or drafting experience a plus
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred
• MS Office software skills required, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in sales or customer service is an asset
• Working knowledge of geometry, strong math skills, and a technical aptitude
